Climate Camp.

The Climate Camp is a place where anyone who cares about climate change or social justice can meet, live, learn and take direct action together. It happened last August 15th-23rd, in Co. Offaly, Ireland. This documentary by Near TV volunteers sought to capture some of it’s spirit.

Inside Long Kesh

The Maze Prison ranks alongside prisons such as Alcatraz and Sing Sing. It became the scene for symbolic protests, hunger strikes and a dramatic escape in 1983, which lead to it attaining a special status and focal point of the conflict in Northern Ireland, for those on both sides of the political divide. Known to prisoners as Long Kesh, it played a significant role in the negotiations for ‘The Peace Process’ and was finally closed down on 29th September 2000. NvTv went back to the prison with an ex-Loyalist and ex-Republican prisoner, to see what life was really like in the Compounds and H-Blocks.

Climate Camp For Social Justice

In this Neat TV production, Dave Donnellan and other volunteers bring viewers a glimpse into the recent Climate Camp in Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly. The protest camp highlighted the urgent need to address the issue of peat bogs in Ireland and the dangerous effect their exploitation by Bord na Mona and the ESB has on Climate Change.

Northern Ireland Centre For Trauma.

This is a 25 minute film made by Dr Michael Brown of the Development Media Workshop. As part of its mission, the NICTT has worked in developing world contexts, particularly where there has been civil conflict, aiming to share its learning and skills with other practitioners and communities. NICTT staff have worked in Sarajevo, Bosnia and in Sri Lanka. This work has had a direct impact on the Centre’s training and treatment approaches. In 2006 the Centre was approached by Development Media Workshop with its partner Leprosy Mission Ireland to work in developing a psychosocial training programme in Nepal funded through Irish Aid.

Deirdre’s Passsions

Directed by Ger Consadine, the documentary ‘Deirdre’s Passsions’ is a short which tells the story of the Galway author Deirdre Manifold , one-time girlfriend of the notorious Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh . The film was screened at the Way Out West segment of the Galway Film Fleadh.
