June Open Days in the Studio.
The DCTV studio on Thomas street has been in operation for over a year now. Spread over 1,200 sq. m the studio has a large sound stage, a fully digital remote control camera control room, sound desk and basic lighting rig. There is also meeting space and storage for a huge range of shows.
In recent weeks a number of volunteer produced shows have been produced for the studio. If you are interested in developing a show, volunteering on a show or just having a nose around to see what a TV studio looks like we are running open afternoons every Friday for the month of June. Starting a 2pm with a tour of the faiclities we’re open to training / planning or just hacking the studio with whoever turns up.
Call the office at 01 5111209 between 1 and 2pm on a Friday or drop a mail to studio@dctv.ie before hand to confirm your place. If you’ve free time, a general interest in making media or have a project sitting on the back burner that could come to life if someone let you loose in a fully equipped TV studio its well worth dropping down to have a look. We’re hoping that these open days will see teams formed, productions planned and possibly some projects developed for our Autumn and later schedules.

Pedal Project Discussion
Monday 1230 and Friday 1900//
From the reasons we should, and shouldn’t, insist on cycling helmets to how we design our roads to create dedicated spaces for cycling while ensuring ‘permeable’ road systems with a mix of transport forms – The Pedal Project is the most complete and wide ranging analysis of cycling in Dublin yet. Fashion, politics, health, quality of life all show up as Dublin Community Television brings its own unique style of media making to the issue. Visually arresting, we see how Dublin compares to London and Amsterdam and hear voices from all strata and corners of our city.
Reel Youth
Give me the camera//
Reel Youth’s main objective is to get young people from different projects to meet each other and realise common interests. It’s a project that sets out to leave media skills embedded with both the participating young people and their youth workers. Founded by Bradóg Regional Youth Services, it’s mandated to work with young people in the North West Inner City through their voluntary participation in activities and processes that have positive outcomes. They have pioneered video-making with young people with lesser opportunities and, for the past five years, supported young people to make national and international award-winning short films. Bradóg founded the coveted Reel Youth Film Festival and is an active member of the European youth organisation, Empower Media Network.
Cannonball Run
Give me the camera //
If your idea of a learning curve involves diving in at the deep end, then the Cannonball run might hold some shades of interest for budding film makers in Dublin. Lining itself up to be the amphetamine fueled X-Factor of off kilter film making, it’s based on Stateside events like the NYC Midnight Run and the Screenwriters’ Challenge that put creatives under pressure cooker conditions to churn out product. With just 24 hours across the last weekend in March to shoot and edit a 3 minute film, the event promises moments of Darwinian natural selection galore with digital meltdowns at the edit stage and scrambles for locations and cast at the start.
Deirdres Passions
Give me the camera//
Directed by Ger Consadine, the documentary ‘Deirdre’s Passsions’ is a short which tells the story of the Galway author Deirdre Manifold , one-time girlfriend of the notorious Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh
