January 2011 Schedule
HIGHLIGHTS THIS MONTH
Howth 17 A Century of Sailing.
digital stories//
The film follows the class’s attempts to build a brand new boat from scratch to extend the fleet for the first time in nearly 90 years. But first they must revive long-dead boatbuilding skills and take on onerous engineering challenges such as pouring nearly a tonne of molten led into an untested home-made mould.
This documentary also explores what is behind their passion; a communal spirit where everyone helps each other and socialises together amid fierce competition to not only be first across the finish line but to be among the best cared-for boats in the fleet.
Shot on the high definition Sony EX1 by lighting cameraman Shane Tobin, the half hour documentary captures the beauty of these amazing craft against the spectacular scenic backdrop of Howth.
The programme will be broadcast by Dublin’s community station DCTV, which is also the producer of this €30,000 project, with roughly two thirds of the funding coming from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Sound & Vision scheme.
Playing as part of our Digital Stories block at Mon 2030, Tues 1630,
Weds 2030, Fri 2300, Saturday 1630
Warring Factions
digital stories//
As forces in American government and media have fueled the perception of an unavoidable war with Iran, Warring Factions is a call to (dis)arms. An American-born Iranian breakdancer finds cultural awakening by exploring his multi-ethnic roots. Faced with dual nationality in two conflicting countries, he travels to Iran to examine the political issues first-hand while exploring his cultural identity with a group of Iranian b-boys. By combining documentary and studio reenactments, Warring Factions looks at the blurring of world borders, and the looming threat of another war in the Middle East.

A Concert Film directed by Daragh McCarthy
around the city//
In February 2010 Brass Unbound–which includes jazz heavy weights Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Roy Paci and Wolter Wierbos–joined legendary Dutch experimental punks The Ex for a high octane European tour which culminated in an intense sellout show in Dublin. This film takes the viewer, and the listener, through every horn riff and guitar lick of their one-time collaboration.
Part of the entertainment block play out times: Mon 1400, Tues 2300 and Weds 1400.

St. John Bosco Youth Centre is a vibrant and energetic youth centre that caters for youth in the Drimnagh area. We offer a wide range of activities for all ages. Over the past few months we have been working with groups from the centre in making a number of videos, including this short drama!
Dublin Community Television (DCTV) is proud to announce the launch of four hours of material produced by the St John Bosco Youth Centre in conjunction with DCTV .
This material has been by the youth of Drimnagh, including programmes produced as part of training projects DCTV has been doing with Bosco Youth Centre during 2010. The DCTV courses included a Fetac level 3 in Video expression delivered to 18 young people in association with the Bosco centre.
Speaking with Ciaran Murray , Chair Of DCTV he said “Training is an essential part of the work of community television and stands closely with the ethos of DCTV which is empowerment and participation” .
The training delivered was financially supported by Rathmines Pembroke Partnership and FAS .
James Redmond , DCTV scheduler said “Its exciting for DCTV to host this material and support on going youth groups in the city , we are happy to announce that we will give over the schedule to Bosco Material”.

Hello,
I was wondering who I may speak with regarding a monthly show focused on influential women in Ireland?
Kind Regards,
