You might have stumbled upon Dublin Community TV over on NTL 802. At DCTV we have a unique mission to enhance diversity, empower communities and build participation in media and in community development.

As part of this mission, we have a new show called Dublin Diaries. It’s produced with getting you involved in mind.

DUBLIN DIARIES: A PEOPLE’S HISTORY

Right now, we are working on a programme aiming to put the people of Dublin back in touch with their own forgotten histories. It’s a show called Dublin Dairies and we’ll be building a series of 365 short programmes. So that’s a programme for each day of the year.

In short, it’s a calendar packed with nuggets of forgotten histories, of names and events lost in the past and resurrected to populate each day of our televised calendar. All of these historical nuggets will be dug up from several primary archives located in Dublin such as the Irish Times, specialized collections in The National Archive, the registrar at Kilmainham Jail and the records at Glasnevin Cemetery.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Down in the dungeons of DCTV, our team of skilled video technicians are working night and day to create a programme for each day of the dairy we have scripted. But we need your help to narrate our show.

Most documentary style programmes are narrated by historians, leaders and experts. As a community station with a mission to involve you, we are going to try something wildly different. For Dublin Dairies, we are asking residents of Dublin, both old timers and new-comers, of all backgrounds and accents to get involved in voicing each day of the calendar with our discovered little gems of social history.

HOW YOU CAN HELP.

We’ve done the research. We have the scripts. We have the video. Now, we just need your voice! We are asking community groups, literacy projects, adult education groups and residents associations and everything in between to invite us out for an evening.

When we arrive this is what will happen:

- Two of the DCTV crew will come out…
- We’ll bring an audio recorder and set of scripts with us…
- We’ll explain how the Dublin Dairies TV series works…
- We’ll show you examples of the show….
- Then we’ll get you and your colleagues to read a VERY short script…
- Eventually, we’ll use these recordings as voice overs on our show….
- In a few months the show will air and you will get a credit at the end…

We also have some samples of the show ready that you can view. We intend to work with a lot of groups on this project, so please get in touch as soon as possible so that we can work out a schedule of when we can visit!
