DCTV Committee Member Profiles 2009.

Richard Costello has been working in the C&V sector in Dublin and Belfast for the last 12 years. Richard has worked on and supported a variety of projects that draw on the ethos of community media. Richard brings a broad range of experience in making community media and in working in the C&V sector, especially with groups normally marginalised from access to mainstream media outlets. (proposed for election to Committee)


Paul Flanagan
has been involved in media since the 1970s, originally as President of the Cine club / Society, based in Dublin. Working on many community media projects throughout the eighties, he formed Lispopple Studios in the mid-nineties and broke into the mainstream television sector, producing and directing many series for TG4. He was elected to the Committee in 2008. He brings a vast knowledge of production experience to the Committee, especially in the area of micro budget productions, and was first elected in 2008, having served previously on various sub-committees.

Photojournalist and videographer Paula Geraghty has been a contributor to DCTV programmes since it first began broadcasting. She has brought many groups within the orbit of DCTV and is committed to working with the committee of DCTV to ensuring access to programme making in DCTV. She joined the Committee during 2009

Margaret Gillan is Co-ordinator for Community Media Network (CMN) since 1996. A Founder member of the Dublin City Community Forum she served as a community representative to the Dublin City Development Board, promoting community media in the consultative process for the city´s 10 year strategic plan. She proposed the establishing of the Dublin Community Media Forum (DCMF) in 2001, representing it on the Dublin Community Forum Council. A founder member of DCTV she served as Secretary from 2002 to 2007; and has been Chairperson of the national Community Television Association (CTA) since 2006. Her ongoing work in CMN is supporting community organisations to engage with media, including community television


Laurence Henson
has a background in television and film production, and is an independent award-winning writer-director. For ten years has run a highly successful screen-writing course in Dublin, Cork and Belfast. He is well well-placed to help new-comers articulate their ideas and/or their concerns in suitable programme forms. He has been a Committee members since the launch


Turlough Mullen
is a partner in Grant Thornton, Chartered Accountants. Turlough has a wide variety of business clients and he has a special interest in the Charity and Not For Profit sector. Turlough has served on the committee since June 2007 and is Treasurer for DCTV with responsibility for coordinating all financial and tax matters. He joined the Committee during 2008.

Ollie McGlinchey has since 1991 been manager of Ballymun Communications Ltd, a not-for-profit community video organisation. They document local events, and have recorded a variety of meetings, protests, festivals and the regeneration of the new Ballymun. Productions have included ‘A Chip Off the Old Block’, Contrasting Realities’, and Tower Tales. He is also involved with the Ballymun Partnership, the Ballymun Neighbourhood Council, and the Cuman Baire Setanta Hurling Club.


Joe Murdiff

Ciarán Murray works in community media as the coordinator of the near media co-op, where the management of training and production in TV, radio and IT are the main components of his work. He is very active in community media nationally and internationally and is a member of the boards of Craol, the Community Radio Forum of Ireland and the CMFE (Community Media Forum of Europe) He brings to DCTV experience and expertise on policy, partnerships and funding initiatives in the community media sector. Ciarán is also involved the promotion of intercultural projects and the Irish language. www.near.ie He has sat on the Committee from the beginning.


Niamh O’Donnell
has worked in arts management for over 17 years. Niamh is General Manager of Project Arts Centre, a multi-disciplinary arts centre in the Dublin, presenting a broad range of work from artists at all stages of their careers, paying particular attention to encouraging new talent and new practices. Project Arts Centre supports artists not yet eligible for more formal funding mechanisms and is also actively interested in commissioning and generating new work. The organisation is committed to fostering public engagement with its programmes and to making its facilities accessible to groups that are underrepresented in cultural forums, both as practitioners and as participants.


Eira O’Gorman
is full time trade union organiser, who has worked with many community groups throughout Dublin. Eira believes strongly in the values of community media and is keen to make a contribution in relation to DCTV.

Seán Ó Siochrú is a researcher at NEXUS research cooperative in Dublin, specialising in media, communication and ICTs. He has completed numerous community development projects, in Ireland and abroad, has written extensively on media and broadcasting, is involved in the international movement for communication rights, and has been active in the community media sector in Ireland for over a decade. He brings to DCTV experience in policy issues, and designing and implementing development initiatives, and served as DCTV Chairperson for the first five years.
