International Women’s Day Take Over On DCTV

Tomorrow on International Women’s Day there’ll be another schedule takeover on DCTV.   From 2pm we’ll be broadcasting a special range of content to celebrate and mark the day.  There’ll be other bits and pieces popping up in parts of the schedule all day. Below is just some of the content that will be shown, you can expect more shorts through out the day and on the bulletin board in between our blocks of content.

Much of the material below has been screened on the station already and some of it can even be made available for local screenings. Don’t forget, our Independent Media slot this month also features content looking at the working lives of women, the role of women in the Zapatista struggle, the effects of war on women in Iraq and more…

The Future of Feminism (Running time 30:00)

‘The future of Feminism’ by Cara Holmes; A documentary shot around Ireland, Berlin and Copenhagen. An introduction to the concepts of feminism, how people perceive feminism today and why it is essential that feminism continues to exist in our consumer driven societies. The film was shot in the different areas noted above in order to get an overview of thoughts and feelings about feminism across Europe.

Cara Holmes is a member of the DIY Irish Band Party Weirdo; in this documentary she takes the viewer on a journey through contemporary third wave feminism. She interviews women involved in earlier stages of the movement such as Ailbhe Smith from the UCD Women’s Studies Department, as well as moving to Berlin to look at queer spaces and how art and culture add to the movement.
